The Koastal Kaos Invitational and
$10,000 WQS 1-Star Take Over Oceanside This Week
The 2007-2008 Koastal Kaos Surf Series’ sponsored by SB Surfboards will
pull out all the stops, closing out the season with back-to-back
events at Oceanside Harbor’s North Jetty this week.
First up, will be the KK series’ top qualifiers in all six divisions
going head to head and elbow to elbow in the Koastal Kaos
Invitational in pursuit of cash, prizes and divisional championship
bragging rights. In addition to the $800 cash payout for the winner
of the Open Men’s division, the top two finishers in the Open Men’s,
as well as the Junior Men’s division champ, will earn seeds in the
$10,000 Koastal Kaos WQS 1-Star event which will go off Saturday and
Sunday —also at Oceanside Harbor—immediately after the Invitational.
“We’ve seen some mind-blowing surfing from our competitors throughout
the series…in all divisions,” said KK Contest Director Phil
Antonopoulos. “So it’s definitely going to be exciting to watch all
these surfers going for broke with even more cash and prizes on the
line. You can always count on groms like Taylor Clark (Encinitas),
and Kanoa Igarashi (Huntington Beach), as well as the bigger guns
like Brent Reilly (Carlsbad), Macy Mullen (Hawaii) and so many others
to put on a clinic of high-performance surfing.”
Heading into the weekend — May 10 – 11—up and coming pro surfers will
take the stage, vying for a share of the $10,000 purse and precious
ASP ratings points in the Koastal Kaos WQS 1-Star sponsored by No Fear.
”We’ve linked the Koastal Kaos Invitational to an ASP sanctioned WQS
event to help our amateur surfers earn QS points and make the
transition into the pro ranks,” said Britt Galland, No Fear’s VP of
Marketing. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see if any of the three
amateur seeds from the Invitational get steal some of the prize money
from the pros.”
According to Antonopoulos, the series’ sponsors, including No Fear SB
Surfboards, GFH Boards, Future Fins, Sambazon, HangAir, Spy, ProLite,
Bubble Gum Surf Wax, Ogio, Osiris, and BL!SSS magazine—have been very
generous at every event, pumping competitors with tons of prizes and
products. “I think we may need an extra trailor for this week’s load
of prizes and products.”
