SB Surfboards BlogBass US Open Quiver8/03/10
Just met up with Bass last night in Newport and dropped off 3 freshies for him to try and ride in the US Open. This batch was a little different than his last few batches because they were shaped with Huntington Style slop in mind. Far Left Board: 6'1" x 18 1/2" x 2 1/4" SeaGull 2 - Round Squash Bass has gotten a lot bigger over the last year, so Steve decided to get him on something quite a bit bigger than what he is used to. This is a full 1/4" wider than what he has been riding and 1/16" thicker. This will most likely be his go to board for punchier surf. Middle Board: 6'1" x 18 1/2" x 2 3/16" SeaGull 2 - Round Squash This is a little closer to what Bass has been riding for the last year except it is a 1/4" wider and the newer version of the SeaGull. Steve has been working on a updated SeaGull model for quite awhile now and this is the result. A little bit deeper single concave, slightly flatter entry rocker, same pulled in nose template and tapered rail. Far Right Board: 5'10" x 19" x 2 3/8-" Piggy - Wide Squash The Piggy model has been one of our best selling models in Japan for a few years and is just now becoming very popular in the USA. It is basically a Pic with flatter entry rocker, wider nose and tail, and a slightly boxier rail. Geared towards smaller, mushier waves. This will be Bass' go to board if it is a classic Huntington swell for this year's US Open. All Bass' boards have Future Fins and have the following glass job: 4 - 4 3/4 Oz Deck, 4 Oz Bottom. Top and Bottom layers S-Cloth
